A change of plan

We had a meeting earlier today and due to imminent deadlines we have decided that it would be wise to shorten the product as our original timescale was to optimistic and the amount of work undertaken could not be achieved in the short space of time available.

Because of this we are now making a trailer for 6ftnorth to supplement the script and other preperations we have done over the last few months. We feel this is a good compromise and is better than releasing the first 5 minutes of the tv show that ends at the point we manage to complete it too.

Despite this change of plan we believe that the trailer will be a good representation of the work we have achieved when presented with the script and story board.

Our target deadline is now the 13th of October.

Day 1 of filming.

Today has been an exciting day because we finally started filming. We managed to cover the cold open shots featuring the character Zac. We think the day went very successfully and we managed to keep close to our original ideas and storyboard.

Additionally we recorded some footage for the 'making of' along with some cheeky out takes. Watch this space for the making of time lapse.

Funding

Today I received a letter concerning the funding we had applied for from the Norfolk Youth Fund. Unfortunately due to government cutbacks the Fund has been effectively closed down so we haven't been able to acquire any money to help with the project.

Despite the obvious problems this brings after some discussions the show will go on with some modifications made to the pilot to keep the price down. For example we will now not be filming in High definition and may have to change some locations.

Meeting

On the 10th July, I (Richard) went to cambridge to see a Director of Photography to help me and to explain what I exactly had to do in the EPQ. When I got to the location of meeting he had also brought along a Director to help explain the feilds of being a DP.

From the meeting I found out that the DP goes through all the three stages of making the film Pre, Post and filming production. The DP is the person who makes sure every thing is fine with the lighting,  camera movement, location, storyboard, and the coustumes. He/She also make sure that the film is going exatly how the director wants it to look, however if the director wants to try somthing new the DP has to decided if it fits in with the rest of the film.

The director also gave me a few pointers on the directing part and how to make shot look and how to make the actor really get into there roles.

Funding application

Having managed to get the storyline finalised we have been able to make some progress on what equipment (props, make up, editing  and filming equipment) we will need for all the scenes and put together the funding application to the norfolk youth fund. hopefully we should receive a response in the next month so we know whether we can afford some of the more ambitious scenes planned.

On other news I have put together a poster to advertise auditions we have planned after exams have finished. They've been put up all over the college and high school so anyone interested can contact us and audition for the various positions available both acting and helping out with filming, makeup et cetera.

Auditions will be filmed so we'll have some video's uploaded for you to watch soon.

Watch this space!

Death/Funeral Music

I heard this song and thought that it would be great for either the death or funeral scene. Mainly due to the beginning starts off like funeral music and then does into a nice beat, which could fit in nicely for when he gets hit by the car and then realises that he's a ghost

Possible opening

6ft North possible opening from Richard Harrison on Vimeo.

This was something that I (Richard) made a while ago, but didn't have the time to upload. It was me thinking about the opening of the TV show and what we should show. We had decided for him to get struck by lighting (at that point but it has changed to getting hit by a car), so I thought by having him beginning struck by lighting and for half his body to fade would be a good way of showing that he is a ghost. Yet before this I decided to start with the title, as this would clearly show the name. The main reason that I put in the arrows, that slow go up or down, was to show that the dead character was stuck in between the dead and the living as by the end both the arrows are pointing at him in the middle. As this gave an outline of the show, with just enough information to entice the viewer to watch the show.

...and we're on the map!

Check this out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6FtNorth_%28Tv_show%29

We're on the map! Hopefully if it isn't deleted by wikipedia that'll be updated as and when we get news.... so excited for the project at the moment. Casting Calls are rolling out today on StarNow.com hopefully we'll be holding auditions towards the end of June. Script is coming along... painfully slowly, but it is getting there. At the moment the project's kinda been put on the back burner for the three of us as exams are imminent, but it's not forgotten about...

OH and in OTHER news, we've cast our first actress! Alice Day (who you may know) will be playing a 'welsh-once-high' best friend of our main character. Currently the role is unnamed, but more information when we get it.... will also upload actors/actresses bios for you to have a butchers at, for now... caoi!

(P.S. will also post the casting call's URL from starnow once it's been processed.)

Death Test

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

A productive couple of days.

After spending a few minutes renewing my outdated blogger details [Last login:2008] I'm happy to say this is my first post of many following our progress developing 6ft North, as it is currently known.

There's been heated discussion over the subject of the pilot between the three of us. All is not yet decided but I feel like we're making good headway on not only the idea but, more administrative issues including: whether or not funding is a realistic possibility; talent and assistance for makeup, lighting et cetera.

I have spent the evening playing with a few ideas for the style our promotional media and this is what i've come up with:

It may seem an unusual design at the moment, no fear, all will make sense soon enough.

introduction

Hello, so basically this is a blog to update you as often as possible on the progress of making out television show for our Extended Project Qualification.

On the blog you should find posts from the three of us primarily involved in making this television show:
Kennet Tanner (me - kennytmedia)
Richard Harrison
Robert Smith

We all have different roles in the production of this EPQ so some of us are more likely to post more often during certain times of the creation. This will all become clear as we continue with this blog.

For now, I'll leave you with this incredible extract from an undergraduate drama from Jae-Ha Myung, Mireia O'Prey & Team.
